As a natural amino acid, glutamine can be found in both blood as well as being stored in the skeletal muscles. It is made by the body and becomes conditionally essential (required from dietary sources) when the immune system is placed under acute pressure. These dietary sources include dairy, fish, certain meats, wheat and certain vegetables.
L-Glutamine is conditionally essential, meaning the body can produce enough to satisfy its needs, however, when putting the body under the stress of frequent and intense exercise, and during pregnancy and lactation, illness and fasting, the consumption of L-Glutamine becomes necessary.
L-Glutamine is an amino acid, which are the building blocks of protein, and thus can contribute to the maintenance and growth of muscle mass. L-Glutamine further benefits the body from the associated benefits of taking amino acids.
